ABIDJAN - In a global context marked by increasingly complex energy challenges, Abidjan becomes the meeting point for governments, financial institutions, businesses and academia to discuss the future of energy in Africa. The International Network on African Energy Transition (INAET) brings together some of the sector's leading stakeholders with the aim of turning dialogue into investment and concrete action. At the centre of the discussion are crucial issues such as energy access, industrial development, biofuels and sustainability, in order to build an energy transition capable of responding to the continent's real needs.

INAET organises its third conference in Abidjan on 11 and 12 June 2026

The third INAET Energy Conference will be held in Abidjan, promoted by Eni, the World Bank Group and Luiss University. A multi-stakeholder platform to discuss the priorities of the energy transition in Africa. At a crucial moment for global energy markets, the International Network on African Energy Transition (INAET) is organising its third conference in Abidjan on 11 and 12 June 2026, bringing together recognised leaders from the energy sector to discuss solutions aimed at promoting a just, inclusive and investment-oriented energy transition across the African continent. The conference will address a broad range of topics through a technologically neutral and inclusive approach, exploring the interconnections between energy, economic development and industrial growth. Discussions will range from energy access to sustainable agriculture, from biofuels to clean cooking solutions, and through to carbon markets.

Fostering dialogue and cooperation between African and international stakeholders

Policymakers, financial institutions, international organisations, private sector representatives, academics and members of civil society from African countries and other regions of the world will come together to strengthen a platform that has continued to grow since its first conference, held in November 2023. INAET is now an international multi-stakeholder network promoted by Eni and the Luiss School of Government in Rome, in collaboration with the World Bank Group, including the Institute for Economic Development and the International Finance Corporation (IFC), demonstrating a shared commitment to supporting African priorities in energy transition and development. The platform aims to foster dialogue and cooperation between African and international stakeholders, creating a bridge between academia, institutions and business. The 2026 edition builds on the success of previous conferences held in Kenya and Italy, as well as INAET's participation at COP30 in Brazil, confirming the network's role as a leading platform for high-level discussion on the continent's energy future and sustainable development.

Network on Bioenergies in Africa

This year's edition will also feature a side event organised in collaboration with the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), further strengthening INAET's cooperation with key multilateral actors. The event will be dedicated to the priorities of African countries in the field of bioenergy and will see the launch of the "Network on Bioenergies in Africa", a joint initiative developed within the framework of the partnership between Eni and IRENA. The initiative is based on the shared commitment of the two organisations to consolidate the collaboration launched through the sustainable biofuels capacity-building programme, which involved numerous African public officials between 2022 and 2024. Organised under the high patronage of the Ministry of Mines, Petroleum and Energy of the Republic of Côte d'Ivoire, the Abidjan edition of INAET is supported by sponsors and partners including Bayer, Altera Infrastructure, WTS Energy, Iveco and Faman Energies, who will contribute to enriching the debate with the investors' perspective.

A constructive exchange on some of the most pressing energy challenges

"Over the past three years, INAET has evolved into a strong international multi-stakeholder platform, capable of bringing together a wide range of actors around a common objective: promoting a just, inclusive and investment-oriented energy transition in Africa. Thanks also to the valuable collaboration of our partners, the network has continued to grow in size, reach and depth. The strength of this initiative lies in its diversity, which enables a constructive exchange on some of the continent's most pressing energy and development challenges. INAET is not merely a discussion forum: it is a platform that fosters new synergies, partnerships and concrete business-oriented solutions, helping to turn dialogue into action," said Lapo Pistelli, Director of Public Affairs at Eni.

Transforming rigorous research into practical knowledge for utilities, regulators and investors

"Ambition alone will not power Africa: data and evidence are needed. African utilities possess some of the continent's most valuable operational data, yet this information remains largely underutilised in strategic decision-making. The Institute for Economic Development is here to change that.
In Abidjan, we are proposing a trusted data partnership that transforms rigorous research into practical knowledge for utilities, regulators and investors, accelerating energy access, unlocking private investment and creating skilled jobs, all central elements of the Mission 300 initiative," said Gero Carletto, Head of the Rome Centre of the Institute for Economic Development of the World Bank Group. "Africa's energy transition does not follow a single narrative: it is a mosaic of national realities, each requiring tailored solutions based on evidence and guided by local leadership. INAET was designed precisely to address this complexity, bringing together policymakers, investors and academia to turn dialogue into concrete commitments.

Infrastructure investment and energy development in West Africa

The Luiss School of Government is proud to be one of the pillars of this platform, which continues to grow in depth and relevance. The third conference in Abidjan is a testament to the journey accomplished so far and the great potential that still remains to be realised," added Domenico Lombardi, Director of the Policy Institute of the Luiss School of Government. Abidjan was selected as the host city in recognition of Côte d'Ivoire's increasingly important role as a regional hub for economic growth, infrastructure investment and energy development in West Africa. The expansion of the country's energy sector and the growing number of international partnerships make it a strategic venue for discussing the continent's transition pathways. The conference will include institutional addresses, high-level dialogues and roundtable discussions aimed at generating operational recommendations and policy guidance to support Africa's long-term development objectives.

The International Network on African Energy Transition

Participants are expected from institutions such as the African Union, the World Bank Group, the African Development Bank, IRENA, FAO, EBRD, ECFR and Columbia University, as well as representatives of major African and international companies and research centres. INAET, the International Network on African Energy Transition, is an initiative aimed at strengthening the engagement of African stakeholders and fostering knowledge-sharing on energy transition issues across the continent. INAET promotes an inclusive dialogue among policymakers, academia, international institutions and the private sector in support of sustainable energy solutions driven by local priorities. Eni is a global energy company operating in 62 countries, with more than 32,000 employees and integrated across the entire value chain. The company aims to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 through the progressive decarbonisation of its processes and products.

The Luiss School of Government (SoG) is a postgraduate school

To achieve this objective, it has invested for more than a decade in the research, development and application of innovative technologies capable of accelerating the transition towards increasingly sustainable solutions. The Luiss School of Government (SoG) is a postgraduate school that trains senior executives and officials from the public and private sectors in the management of political and institutional decision-making processes. It is committed to advanced research and serves as a reference point in the international academic debate on the transformation of national and global systems. The World Bank Group works to create a world free of poverty on a liveable planet through a combination of financing, knowledge and expertise. It comprises the World Bank, including the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) and the International Development Association (IDA); the International Finance Corporation (IFC); the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA); and the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID).
